What we offer

Our studio is thoughtfully designed to help you realize your health and wellness aspirations through personalized attention and intimate group classes.

Our small group sessions, with no more than seven participants per class, are led by experienced instructors who prioritize alignment, posture, balance, endurance, strength, and flexibility. We incorporate various props such as foam rollers, balls, bands, and more to ensure diversity and progression in each class.

For newcomers to our studio, we encourage you to try a complimentary demo class or attend one of our open days. This provides an opportunity to experience our studio and connect with our instructors before committing to a dedicated class.

New members seeking to join a regular, dedicated group class will be required to schedule a mandatory pre-assessment. During this assessment, we’ll evaluate your posture, address any potential injuries or other considerations, and introduce you to the fundamental principles of Pilates, including alignment and breathing. This assessment is crucial to ensuring that we can provide you with the best possible experience in our classes.

We adhere to a dedicated class schedule because we believe it offers numerous advantages:

Stronger Bonds: You’ll have the chance to build relationships with your fellow class members, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

Enhanced Commitment: Structuring your days around a fixed class schedule promotes commitment and consistency in your Pilates practice, reducing last-minute cancellations or rescheduling.

Personalized Teaching: With a consistent group of members in each class, we can tailor instruction and class plans to better suit your needs, ensuring a more personalized experience.

Improved Progression: This new system allows for smoother progression in your practice as we can better track your development, incorporate more techniques, and make better use of props.

Classes are priced at a flat rate of R125 per session, payable in advance to secure your dedicated spot in class. This will be discussed in detail upon sign up. We offer numerous classes throughout the day, and we’re confident we can find the right fit for your schedule.

In addition to our studio classes, we also offer corporate wellness days or weekly group sessions, demo classes at events, and off-site classes at health and wellness facilities. For more information about these opportunities, please feel free to reach out to us at pilates@debimalherbe.co.za.

At Wellness Collective, we are wholeheartedly committed to assisting you in achieving your health and wellness objectives. Your journey to a stronger, healthier you starts right here with us.

The legacy of Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates was born in 1883 near Dusseldorf, Germany. Although he was a sickly child, he developed himself into a very accomplished athlete.

He was living in England when WW1 broke out, and he was interned on the Isle of Man.

While there, he developed the set of mat exercises now known as the Original 34. This is also where Pilates started using springs from hospital beds as resistance and these later evolved into the Pilates apparatus such as the Cadillac and reformer.

He moved to New York in the 1920’s and along with his wife, Clara, they opened a ‘body conditioning gym’. It soon became popular, especially with dancers, athletes, and celebrities.

Although not always recognized, Clara was integral in teaching, training, and running their Contrology studio. Joseph wrote two books called ‘Your Health’ and ‘Return to Life Through Contrology’ which outlined his six principles namely: breath, precision, control, concentration, centering and flowing movement as well as repertoire and ideas of well-being.

Joseph Pilates died in 1967 and has left behind a legacy, a unique body of work, and dedicated followers who have continued to teach and evolve this method.
